Profile
Chris Brewer is a multimedia journalist who possesses six years of writing and shooting experience. His journalism career began in the United States Air Force in November 2002, and he was honorably discharged from active duty in November 2006. He reported, edited and produced news stories for the American Forces Network from various locations across the world, including Iraq. After his Air Force commitment ended, he signed on with KPTV Fox 12 Oregon as a freelance videographer and editor. His latest assignment was a stint as a multimedia journalist at the Springfield News-Leader newspaper in Springfield, Missouri. He also volunteers extensively at his local church and community organizations.

Work Experience
May 2008 – July 2009
Multimedia Reporter, Springfield News-Leader, Springfield, MO

Shot, wrote copy for, edited, voiced and produced video stories for the Springfield News-Leader’s website, News-Leader.com. Responsible for over two hundred videos on the site since May 2008, encompassing over ninety percent of the web video shot and edited over that time period. Trained members of the multimedia staff on video shooting techniques, as well as use of Avid editing system. Was a key player in rollout of live streaming video, using skills as a one-man band to broadcast key events in the Ozarks to a live audience on News-Leader.com. Utilized Avid Xpress Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop and Quark Xpress at length.

January 2007 – August 2007
Freelance Editor/Photographer, KPTV Fox 12 Oregon, Portland, OR

Shot and edited television stories for The 10 O’Clock News, Good Day Oregon and Oregon Sports Final on a freelance basis. Edited newscast elements on Avid NewsCutter. Ingested and edited footage from the field and other sources, including Pathfire, iPump and live camera feeds. Responsible for ensuring elements of newscast airing correctly during each program. Also operated camera equipment and live news trucks.

November 2005 – May 2006
Writer/Broadcast Producer/Anchor, American Forces Network, Baghdad, Iraq

Shot, wrote copy for, edited, voiced and produced television and radio news stories for the American Forces Network, and supplied footage to external news agencies such as CNN, MSNBC and various networks on the East Coast. Shot and edited footage in adverse field conditions on many occasions. Anchored AFN’s flagship news program, Freedom Journal Iraq. Edited newscasts for Pentagon Channel using Avid Xpress Pro.

October 2004 – November 2006
Writer/Broadcast Producer/Workgroup Administrator, Langley Air Force Base, VA

Shot, wrote copy for, edited, voiced and produced television and radio news stories for Air Combat Command Television Production and distribution over the American Forces Network and the Pentagon Channel. Directed and produced long-form informational videos for clients across Air Combat Command using Avid Media Composer. Coordinated projects with base leaders and fulfilled video requests for walk-in customers. Also assisted technicians with troubleshooting and maintaining Avid editing systems and Unity
file server.

June 2003 – October 2004
Writer/Broadcast Producer, American Forces Network, Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal

Shot, wrote copy for, edited, voiced and produced television and radio news stories for Detachment 6, Air Force News Agency. Created news stories for a worldwide audience using Panasonic cameras and Avid Xpress Pro. Hosted a morning radio show on Island 96.1 FM. Supervised and maintained Avid AirPlay system, which was responsible for distributing broadcast signal to the base population.

Skills
Extremely quick learner, works well under strict deadlines and in high-pressure and time-critical situations. People person, highly self-motivated and genuinely dedicated to work at hand. Able to work comfortably in both a Macintosh and PC environment. Technically proficient in many aspects of media production, including videography, video editing, web design and photography. Possesses six years of extensive on-the-job experience using a wide variety of camera and editing equipment. Proficient with the Avid family of editing software, and at Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas. Working knowledge of a vast array of Mac and PC multimedia and design software.
