On a very warm and humid Memorial Day 2008, I shot a story for the Springfield (Missouri) News-Leader about a gathering where people would bring their own guns, dress up as old-time cowboys and have a target shooting competition.
The shoot was very fun and the people were great. So great, in fact, that they let me jump on in and shoot off a few rounds myself.
What you see above is my attempt at a stand-up to go with the video. It never made it on the website but I’ve had it on Facebook for awhile. You’ll notice that I’m horrible with a pistol, I’m deadly with a rifle and a shotgun kinda knocked me back a little bit. My co-workers at the N-L found it a bit funny that I was in khakis…but they cut me slack when I told them I had been in church all morning.
This video makes me miss the good people of Springfield and the surrounding area. I don’t know why I decided to post it just now…I figured it’d be fun.

Funny Chris. Growing up in FL, we used to go to a theme park called “Six Gun Territory”. I just did a google search, and found this: http://www.lostparks.com/sixgun.html
Times have changed and I don’t think it’s even acceptable to buy your children play guns anymore.
Debbie,
I was talking with a friend about cap guns — you know, those stupid little things that would make the loudest little noise while emitting a tiny little bit of “smoke” (actually the powder used to make the noise) — and he was saying he hasn’t seen one in a store or even used by anyone in years.
The relics of my childhood are slowly dying.
Yep, all three of my boys played with them too!
