I took a solitary trip to the Oregon Coast yesterday for the Fourth and on a whim, I decided to drive a different route than the one I normally use.
Usually, it’s pretty easy from Vancouver to just go up I-205 to I-5 then cross the bridge from Longview to US Hwy. 30 in Rainier, and follow that all the way west into Astoria. But yesterday I chose to go a different route from Rainier and check out a little bit of history of the area, which required me taking the backroads.
Rather than using Highway 30, I used Apiary Road to go to Oregon Highway 47, then connect with Highway 202 in Mist. I took 202 to Route 103, where I then took that to Route 26 over to Seaside and Cannon Beach.
The beaches were packed and Hwy. 101 was stop and go from Cannon Beach into Seaside. Astoria came alive for Independence Day celebrations on the waterfront. And on my way home, even Clatskanie put on a nice show for a town of 1,500.
I took over sixty photos of backroads scenery, historical buildings, the beach and fireworks. Please take some time to check the gallery out…I think it’s something you’ll definitely enjoy, and it’s somewhat of a photo essay.
