Happy Cinco De Mayo to all those of Mexican ancestry. Get out there and celebrate tonight.
And while you do, take a swig of something non-alcoholic for me. It’s my one-year anniversary here at the Springfield News-Leader, and to me that’s huge.
I know a bunch of people would probably laugh at the thought that I am pretty amped about having kept a job for one whole year, but in today’s economy — and especially with what our company has had to pull through over the last nine months — the fact I have a job is still huge.
No, I’m not getting a raise this year because our wages are frozen. But the non-monetary satisfaction of what I do for my job is second to none. I am given creative control over my own stories, something those my age working in television couldn’t even dream of at this point. Also I have had the opportunity to meet some very neat people in the industry here in Springfield, and covered some very neat stories.
As I enter Year Two with the SNL, I’m looking forward to continued blessings from the Lord in my job. My thanks go to Him for opening the door for me to become the N-L’s video guy in the first place.
