EDITOR’S NOTE: A warm welcome to those of you finding this blog post on Google. As a former resident of the Lower Columbia area, I am gravely concerned about my friends in Western Washington. If any of you from the Longview/Kelso/Centralia area have any updates especially regarding the South Kelso area, please participate in the comments and please post them here for myself and all to see. I am praying for you all.
Just heard an update from Longview/Kelso and it’s not good. Kelso officials are afraid the Coweeman River will breach the dike.
According to The Daily News, the city is ordering a mandatory evacuation of areas of Kelso south of Allen Street. This includes the Three Rivers Mall, the industrial area of Talley Way and many areas in South Kelso.
In accordance with the area described, this includes the Kelso Church of God of Prophecy — the church I spent most of my teenage years attending — and the neighborhood surrounding it, from whence came most of the people of the church.
I implore all my friends and family to pray for the folks in Kelso at this very moment. Pray the dike holds and that there be no damage to anyone or their property.
Pray that the Lord shelter them under the shadow of His protection.
UPDATE 10:58 PM: The dike is holding and only standing water is reported on some street intersections.
