UPDATE: South Kelso, WA Evacuation Order Lifted

The Daily News is reporting that the levees held the Coweeman in its banks for the most part last night, even though the river has yet to crest today.

UPDATE: As of 11:52 AM CST, the mandatory evacuation order has been lifted. Thank you, Lord.

  • Hey Chris,
I drove the jail bus up to Kelso on Friday. Water was about 20 feet below the top of the levees on the Cowlitz but the Coweeman was overflowing still in the Kalama area. Kalama’s water supply is suspect and I think undrinkable. 503 is blocked by mudslide near Cougar and most likely won’t be clear for a few weeks. I5 is open and commerce is flowing again!
Kelso looked fine and I could see no problems there except some flooded fields.
Thanks for checking our stream out. I use it mostly to send the service to other parts of the building (nursery ect) Big disappointment by the teens over Winter Retreat. They had a gathering at Chris Birch’s and it looked like they were having fun.

  • John–

Thanks for the update. It is good to hear that things are somewhat returning to normal in SW Washington. I can only imagine the kids’ disappointment about having no WR this year — it’s never happened before.

Be good out there and watch your 6 on the jail bus!
