Snow Forecast FAIL; Don’t Lynch The Weatherman

I’m mad this morning. There is no snow, unless you want to count Sunday night’s sleet sheet of ice as a good substitute. Everyone around here freaked out about the possibility of 2 to 4 inches of the white stuff, and uh, we’re lucky if we got .2 inches.

I kinda feel bad for our local weatherpeople. KSPR was sure there’d be some good snow, KOLR flip-flopped on it a bit, and KY3 was much more conservative in their estimate. At any rate, it sucks to be wrong when everyone expects you to be right.

But that’s what comes with the territory when you live in the Ozarks. Springfield has the most varied weather of any place in the nation, so you definitely can’t fault the weathercasters. Heck I’m sure there are days when stuff is so weird they all probably spin a big “Price Is Right” style wheel and wait for it to land on a proper precipitation type.

Yes, the kid in me is pretty mad. I love snow and have ever since I was a little fartknocker running around in my stay-dries. But as an adult, I have to realize the snow would have made everything around here chaotic for a bit and we all would have suffered from people not knowing how to drive or even function properly in it.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that while our local TV weathermen as a whole missed it this time around, you’ll be thanking them come tornado season when they get the most crucial forecasts of all correct. Better to be oh-fer when it comes to snow predictions, and bat a thousand when it comes to saving lives.

So on that note, forecast away, boys and girls!

  • You know I was thinking that same this morning. I got up looked outside and realized they were wrong. But then I thought at least they get it right when tornadoes are in the forecast.
Just a thought that might make you happy, they are saying we could get the white stuff this weekend. We’ll just have to wait and see.

  • I hope we get it this weekend. We play the Santa Bowl on Sunday.

  • Whenever I’m reading posts like this I can’t help but think of how things have changed since I was young. I guess I’m getting old, but I miss the way things used to be.
