The weather over the past week has taken its toll on two Midwestern COGOP church congregations that I have personal ties to, and I am requesting prayer for them.
City Life Worship Center in Des Moines, Iowa is currently suffering from a flooded basement due to ground saturation from all the rain. Brent Hoefling, their media minister, shared the following:
Since late last week, we have had flooding in the basement of the church…mostly due to ground-saturation because of so much rain. Ee have a claim rep. from the insurance company coming out tomorrow, but it has been a battle keeping the water out of the basement, and we have VBS this week too.
VBS was supposed to be at a local park that we usually rent/reserve, but it has been too wet, even if it doesn’t rain during VBS time, it is too muddy, so we are having it at church (even though it has been flooded and can’t use the basement or classrooms).
It has been a stressful time. Sunday we didn’t have a service, because most everyone was at home removing water from their basement, including our pastor. We have also spent a lot of time with some of the older folks helping get water from their houses as well.
Your prayers are appreciated, especially for tomorrow and the claim rep from the insurance company. it seems that we may not be covered – depending on how the water came in.
Also in Spencer, Indiana, the local COGOP church there has been inundated with floodwaters:
The Spencer COGOP has been flooded due to the torrential rainfall and swelling river waters. On Sunday, Pastor Lowe informed us that there was in excess of 57 inches of flood waters in the sanctuary. Yesterday, they were expecting additional rainfall. Please be in prayer for the Spencer congregation, and Pastor Tammy Lowe as she provides leadership for the church. They are currently looking for a facility to rent in order to continue their services.
Keep these two churches in your prayers, there are some wonderful people that I know that attend both these churches and could definitely use some prayer covering right now.
