Porn Nation

Tonight Aftan and I attended Porn Nation at the LaSells Stewart Center here at OSU. The title sounded interesting, and the discussion definitely was. Michael Leahy, a former sex addict now turned Christian and public speaker, used his public forum to not so much inform a packed house about the evils of pornography in today’s culture, but rather to make people aware of how their actions (in this case, exposing themselves and others to pornography) affect their future.

What was so great about the presentation was the fact he didn’t even talk about how pornography should be banned, limited or censored in any form. By directly telling the crowd that it’s a conscious direct choice whether to entertain their sexual thoughts or not, and not making excuses for himself as to why he was a sex addict, he addressed the problem with pornography as the consumers that support the industry rather than the industry itself. Without anyone to partake in it, pornography would not have as big a stranglehold on popular culture that it does now.

Equally, if not more, impressive was how Leahy offered to share his faith with the students in a non-judgmental way, and offered a four-minute break for those who needed to use the restroom, stand up and stretch or just wanted to leave. Few left and most stayed, and it was great to see how responsive the audience was when he shared his faith in Jesus Christ and how he is now free from the hold porn had on his life. He offered everyone a chance to pray with him and encouraged them to read the Word and give Christianity a chance. I was personally impressed by the students, who listened intently to his every word.

Great speaker, great event and it was refreshing to hear a Christian perspective on a popular subject such as porn that was non-judgmental, personal and very entertaining.

  1. Thanks Chris. You are bold to post this much needed (in & outside of the church)info.

  2. Thanks John!

I am tired of the church being judgmental in and outside of the four walls of the building we all come to gather on Sunday mornings.

Michael Leahy is one of very few Christians I have heard talk to a non-Christian based audience, and be able to share the gospel in a non-threatening way, and captivate the audience the entire time.

I think many people in ministry could learn something from Leahy.

I can’t wait for Leahy’s book to come out!

What kind of props did he bring? :-)

Just a computer and a microphone haha
There have been so many editorials slamming him in the school newspaper. A sex ed. teacher keeps saying that it is his fault that he got addicted and that porn is ok and everyone should try it. Sick.

  6. Yep. Porn’s OK, allright. Try it out and you’ll be hooked for life.

I don’t think porn should be censored. It’s free speech. However, people need to be aware of the effects it can have on everyone.

Okay, here in the Military porn is so rampant and it is destroying relationships. The men here are comparing the ladies they have to these images. It is simply degrading to the women and is turning their sex lives into animalistic behavior instead of the love intercourse God intended it to be. I thank God for deliverance on this issue, but men who struggle with this need to realize that it is a life-time battle. It has been nothing but a fight since I got here to Ft. Knox.

  8. It’s only a battle if you keep entertaining it. With God’s help we have the willpower and strength through Jesus to say no to temptation and not submit to it.
