Ranting And Raving

Turns out I didn’t have to work today. That’s good and bad. I was so dog tired yesterday, I think the quick turnaround from working Friday night 2-11 to Saturday 9-6 got to me. It’s good because I got to rest, and then I went into Longview to cash my checks I got over Christmas, as well as my first paycheck. Then Ryan and I hung out for a bit at Common Ground coffee shop on 14th in Longview. Always good to see and hang out with him.

Speaking of which, there’s no Bank of America here in St. Helens or Scappoose. I have to either drive to Hillsboro or Rainier, which are at least 25 miles away from where I now live. Sucky.

Let me get a piece of good news out of the way. You all have travailed with me through my journey to get an apartment. That journey is now over, as I found a great one in Hillsboro over by the airport and Intel campus. It’s $700 a month with a 6-month lease, which suits me perfect. They also have free Verizon high-speed internet and Comcast extended cable. Nice deal. So tomorrow I sign the lease. Praise God.

Changing gears completely…

How the heck do the Dixie Chicks, the scorn of the country music community not one year ago, win five Grammys in one night? I’ll tell you how. It’s a known fact that Grammys are handed out by a bunch of music executives and is basically Hollywood patting itself on the back. Considering how liberal Hollywood is, and given the nation’s perceived current disdain with the current presidential administration, the war in Iraq, etc., two high-profile Democratic presidential candidates getting their campaigns into high gear…..all those among other reasons are exactly why the Dixie Chicks have won five Grammys in 2007. It’s a good way to work the liberal agenda into the popular media, and it’s pretty smart, you have to admit.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Republican, but I’m not a Democrat either. I can’t stand big government. Even moreso I can’t stand how a large percentage of voting-age adults in our nation can be so influenced politically by entertainers, athletes, etc. Whatever happened to people making informed decisions for themselves?

Sorry to go on a political rant but it just irks me, and is a major reason of why I don’t have any affiliation with a major political party. I’m a Christian, a social conservative and I hate politics in general. I live my life according to the Bible and what I feel to be right, and I constantly ask the Lord for guidance and direction in my life as I face moral dilemmas in my own life.

I don’t care too much for the idea of one trying to influence their ideals on anyone else by creating a set of rules that is the de facto standard that every other human living in the same given area must abide by. There’s a moral code, a conscience that God has granted each one of us that lives, breathes and walks this earth.

Just as much as the political arena is full of big-name people trying to advance a liberal cause, conversely it is not the best place to try to win people over for Christ and His cause.

To say it simply, politics suck.
