What To Look For At The COGOP General Assembly
Many COGOP members are looking forward to this year’s General Assembly, being held August 22-27 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, TN. This is a huge year for the COGOP, with the selection of a new General Overseer pending, among other important topics that need to be resolved in business meetings.
That being said, let me give you the short list of what to look for at this year’s Assembly, in addition to the evening sermons (according to the program):
August 21, 7:00 pm: Cabales Trio singing. The Cabales family are dear friends of our family and they are a huge blessing to everyone when they sing.
August 22-25, 6:00 pm: Bahama Brass Band plays. These guys know how to rock…well not rock, per se, but they are an awesome marching band, and it’s amazing to see how they are on fire for God and represent the COGOP well. They’re a personal favorite of mine.
August 23, 2:30-4:45 pm: Bishop Ordination Service & Introduction of New General Overseer. It’s always cool to see ministers become Bishops in the church. After that, and a couple other orders of business, the new GO will be presented. Who’s it gonna be? Internet chatter says it’s gonna be Billy Wilson. We’ll see.
August 24, 9:30 am: Washington State Worship Team leads worship. Dave Cabales, an all-around great guy, can jam on the trumpet, and he leads the WA state worship team (and the Assembly) in worship. You won’t wanna miss it.
August 25, morning: Teen Talent Festival. An exhibition of some of the best singing, instrument and art talent the COGOP offers nation- and world-wide.
August 26, 7:30 pm: Global Outreach Program. It’s the only reason I read the White Wing Messenger, and also a very big highlight of the Assembly for me. I love to hear what the Lord is doing in COGOPs around the world and it fascinates me to hear reports of how God moves among the nations. It’s gonna be great.
That’s just the short list. Remember that if you can’t go to the Assembly, plop down in a comfy chair, slide it in front of a computer screen and catch live streaming video of it at http://www.cogopwebcast.com.
Ciao.
