Hey Beth, I have been to different churches and I have seen excatly what oprah was talking about, some people are more expressive in worship and some are more reserved. especially, if “white folks” were there that were not born again. The natural mind cannot understand the things of the spirit, but, like Debbie, I would have loved to have ben there!!!
I guess I’m going to get hit on all sides with my view but I wasn’t impressed at all. I love BeBe Winans, but to me, Oprah talks about God and Jesus but lives with a man that isn’t her husband. She says that the Bible isn’t God’s infalliable Word and that God, whether it’s a He or She isn’t a jealous God, because there isn’t anything to be jealous of.
And I agree with Beth about the “white comment” if a white person had said it about another race of people, others would be all over them. Dionne Warwick? Give me a break she is so into new age and fortune telling. One man says he is leaving with the understanding that he needs to dream big. Nothing about Christ and receiving Him.
I guess my point is that I’m sick of being politically correct. To me it was mainly an emotional thing. Yes I know many will say to me, but at least they got to hear the gospel music that talks about Christ. True, and it is always good that Christ is lifted up. But people are following Oprah, and if she leaves from that place and goes on with her life with no change then others will think that you can sing about God, get a chill and be good to go. Not true, to me that is having a form of godliness, but denying the power, the life changing, transforming power of Christ.
Kirk Franklin was on Oprah’s show and discussed how that he sang about God for years yet was so addicted to porn, and how he was faking it. But when he told her how God had set him free and liberated him from that addiction and bondage, she denied that it could be “prayed away”! So no, I wasn’t impressed. Same thing happens in churches all across America, a feel good feeling isn’t the same as Salvation.
Wow Sybil, I didn’t know all that personal stuff that you did! I watch very little TV and don’t keep up with Hollywood other than a little in the newspaper. So on second thought…
Thanks for sharing that, Chris. I just watched it and thought it would have been great to be there.
I felt Oprah’s comment about the “white folks” was disparaging.
ok…So can someone explain what it is to the girl who is on dial up without the needed plug ins to view video on her parents cheap Dell???
