I mentioned a couple of days ago that we got to meet Senator John McCain down at our office. He had been holding a press conference and took time to speak with each of the troops that were in the room afterwards. Here’s the photo I was able to get with him. Really nice guy, down to earth…and on top of that, I think he’s a frontrunner for the Republican bid to retain the White House in 2008. I don’t agree with all of his politics but I definitely respect him (he was a POW for 5 years in Vietnam) and he supports the troops and their efforts here in Iraq 100 percent. That being said, I would like to see him run for the White House in 2008 and he would have my vote (I say this not knowing who any other candidates are yet, of course).
As has been mentioned, today is the first day of my four-day pass, and I was planning to sleep in as anyone would do on their day off. Some selfish idiots from across the way had to wake everyone up around 6 AM with a loud mortar though. It sounded like it hit pretty close but I didn’t hear the voice over the loudspeaker tell us to gear up so I rolled over and went back to sleep. It’s amazing how at the beginning of my deployment, I almost crapped my pants whenever I heard a mortar or explosion…and now near the end of it, I hear one and it’s routine, almost like I’ve grown to live with it.
You’re kinda forced to live with that stuff. Sounds like the rumble of a chopper flying low at 11 PM and rattling your windows, sirens wailing at all points during the day, gunfire in the distance…that’s the norm. It’s going to be weird going back to the States and enjoying silence, because any silence we get here is accompanied with an eerie feeling that something terrible is going to happen soon.
Today has not been the quietest of days. In fact I think it’s probably been one of the most active since I’ve been here. I’ve counted at least four times the loudspeaker has gone off and announced either a controlled detonation, an attack going on across the river, or something going on. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
I hope things are going well for everyone back in the States and beyond. 29 more days, baby!

I thought Mr. McCain was over there to seek out on of our service guys, who they thought would make a good candidate
for the office of President.
someone who not afraid of the issues at hand.
someone who is taller than bush or even Kerry.
someone who’s popular vote would remain at above 80%
someone like chris..who would not have to run on only the choices of the Gop or the Demo
someone like chris who is tall, we need someone tall in the white house after all these years since Lincoln
the former gov of minesota stated that if Hillary get voted in 2008 it would mean a total of 24 years of bush-clinton-bush
VOTE FOR: Chris-McCain 2008
