Day 104: Respect Is Mutual

The following is the reason I am glad I am not deployed with a unit and came here individually.

Apparently the opinion exists (I’m sure it’s among a group of people rather than one person) that I am full of myself and I am somewhat conceited. I was made aware of that this morning.

What may I have done to give people this opinion of me? Let’s see.

FACTS: I am confident in my abilities as a broadcaster. I have more experience than everyone else here who is my same pay grade. I’m not afraid to let this fact be made known when someone in a position of authority comes over to me and treats me like I’ve never done my job before.

Let’s face it. Someone who only does their job when they deploy is not going to have as much experience as an active duty member who does his/her job every day.

Day 103: Laura Ingraham Was Here

Political talk radio junkies listen up. If you listen to the Laura Ingraham Show, be sure to check it out over the next few days because she has been reporting from Iraq. She really supports us and the war effort over here and is making it a point to get the good word of what is going on here, to mainstream America.

I can’t stay on long, but I’ll post photos of the event soon. She interviewed a couple very high ranking officials today and photos are on the way.

God bless!

I’m Not The Only One Who Saw My Team Get Screwed

Here is a compilation of articles across the sports world written yesterday and today by prominent sports columnists, decrying the officials’ handing Pittsburgh the Lombardi Trophy.

Note that some of these writers wouldn’t even care less for the Seahawks if they weren’t in the Super Bowl.

Read these and weep.

Jason Whitlock of the Kansas City Star
The Chicago Sports Review
Central Florida: The Ledger
Michael Smith of ESPN.com
Skip Bayless of ESPN.com

So it’s not just me pointing out the very legitimate fact that the officials sucked crap out of a straw.

The final score of the Super Bowl: Refs 21, Hawks 10. And I will be pissed about it for a very long time.

Day 101: Oh God, The Aftermath.

The Fans!

Stupid Zebras.

Pictured above is the 12th Man for Seattle, and the 12th man for Pittsburgh. You decide which is which.

The Steelers would have been hard to beat by themselves, but really, when the referees side with them and give you crap call after crap call after crap call, it’s OVER. And that’s what happened in Super Bowl XL.

Serious. Darrell Jackson catches a first quarter touchdown? Nope, refs say he pushed off. Big gainer to the 1 yard line in the third quarter? Get out of town, Sean Locklear was holding someone, they claimed. What a crock of mega BS. Let’s take a look at the penalties here, shall we?

Seattle: 7 penalties, 70 yards
Pittsburgh: 3 penalties, 20 yards (2 of them where false starts on the first drive)

So we got screwed hardcore by the officials. BIG TIME. That and I will admit the Seahawks’ clock management at the end of the first half and game sucked poo through a straw.

But through all this, I remain focused on the positive. We made it to the freakin’ Super Bowl, for goodness sake. This was our year. It was a great ride and there were some memorable moments: Jay Feely missing three field goals for the Giants, Shaun Alexander getting 28 regular season TDs, the Seahawks going 13-3 in the regular season, the whuppin’ of Carolina in the NFC title game….it was such an awesome year. They really gave me something to root for this season, and that is HUGE considering me being deployed to Iraq. It was fun to be able to stay up all late hours of the evening and be completely dead the next day because I was rooting for MY Seahawks.

The Seahawks may have lost the Super Bowl, but they are MY team and I am proud of them. We will come back next year and take it. To all the Seahawks, thanks for a great season and thank you for giving me something to scream my lungs out for!!!

Day 100: It’s SUPER SUNDAY!!!

Jesus Gives the Seahawks a Thumbs Up!Jesus was up in heaven watching the Seahawks NFC Championship victory over Carolina a couple of weeks ago, and he loved every minute of it. A friend who’s up there now emailed me this image. He says it was taken when Seneca Wallace had an amazing over-the-shoulder catch of a Matt Hasselbeck pass. So now you see this as your visual evidence, that Jesus loves the Seattle Seahawks. So if Jesus is a Seahawks fan, I guess you are sinning if you root against them.

Did you notice something? I seem to have made it unharmed to triple digits. That’s right everyone, I have reached the century mark in days served over here in Iraq. Today is Day 100, and it is also Super Bowl Sunday. What a coincidence. Just because of that fact, the Seahawks will win the Super Bowl 28-21. Watch it happen.

Not much going on in the world of Chris Brewer. Not much at all. I’m actually getting ready to go back to the hooch pretty soon and sleep until about 10:30 or maybe even 11, then mosey down to the palace and grab some food. Then I’ll head back into my room and watch the Big Game with my roommate. He is also a Seahawks fan, so we will be enjoying the thrill of victory while Steler faithfuls groan and mutter in despair at another quarterback with the number 8 beating them (Aikman for the Cowboys in ‘96).

I think the Seahawks are gonna bolt out to an early 14-0 lead, only to see the Steelers come back and go up 21-14 in the third quarter, putting some Hawks fans on edge. Then Roethlisberger will get shaky hands and throw two critical interceptions in the fourth, and the Seahawks will capitalize off of both to win the freakin’ Super Bowl 28-21 and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Seattle. Watch it happen.

How do you plan on spending your Super Sunday? Watching the game? Doing something else? Tell me about it. Or since most of you will read this on Monday, tell me how you spent your Super Sunday.

God bless you, and God bless the Seahawks.

A curse upon the Steelers!!!

Neat Photos Of The Columbia River Gorge

One of my favorite sites (I do admit, I am a road enthusiast) has some pretty cool photos of a stretch of Interstate 84 in the Columbia River Gorge, located in my home state of Oregon (pronounced Orygun for those of you Texans and East Coasters out there). It’s an absolutely beautiful drive.

We used to take Interstate 84 every summer to get to Pasco, WA for the Washington State COGOP convention. I loved every single drive through the Gorge…it’s one of the most beautiful areas in the United States and it’s probably the most beautiful stretch of freeway I’ve ever been on. If you ever drive it, don’t complain about the 65 MPH speed limit…it’s there for a reason. Just take a look around you and you’ll know why.

Check out all the photos and you’ll see why I miss home. That’s right, I said home. Oregon is home. Virginia is not. Missouri will not be. Only Oregon will ever truly be home to me. Anyway, check out the photos.

Day 99: No Mission, And No Longer Sick!!!

My mission for tomorrow night has been cancelled!!! Praise God. I was looking forward to it, but the mere fact that it would have been traveling on a Sunday night and I probably would have been too tired to watch the Super Bowl because of that, made me dread the mission. But now I get to enjoy it and watch it at the Palace with a bunch of friends, coworkers, and fellow Seahawks fans, all while eating hot wings, pizza, etc.

So yesterday was my first normal day ever since I contracted what I thought to be a stomach virus. After going to sick call a few days ago and going through a round of questioning as to what my symptoms were, they determined that I had food poisoning. Great. They asked me where I eat my meals, and I told them I eat at the main DFAC (dining facility) and also at the Al-Rasheed. Then they went on to tell me, “Yeah we get a few food poisoning cases from the Rasheed here and there.”

Day 98: Gearing Up For A Mission

Hey everyone, I’m outta here on Sunday to go on a mission. Don’t wanna say where so I don’t break the ol’ military operational security policy. But once I get there I’ll be sure to let you know.

I’ll be on tomorrow to provide an update.

Not much happened today except it rained all day. Yuck.

God bless and peace.

Day 97: An Open Letter To Complaining Young Reservists

Some people may not like what I have to say. Oh well. This open letter is to all young reservists who complain about having to be deployed for a year.

Dear Young Reservist,

If you’re in any branch of the service and you’re whining about having to come to Iraq for a year, please shut your mouth.

I respect your military service, but I don’t like how you can live at home and enjoy a normal civilian life, then you come to drill for a couple weekends every now and then, and when you are finally called up to active duty for a year you complain about it.

I signed on the dotted line just like you did, but my commitment is even higher, as I signed four years of my life to serve active duty. The military has moved me around at their leisure to different bases such as Lajes and Langley, and now I am serving for six months in Iraq.

You get promoted faster than I ever will, and that is a travesty. Why, you ask? Because I have done more service in my three years of active service time than you ever will in ten. If anything, it should take even longer to promote you all than active duty troops. There is no reason that someone with one and a half years of reserve time should make E-4 while it took an active duty member like me three years to reach the same rank.

I guess what I am trying to say is that you really have no room to complain when you are called to serve your country for a year. You signed on the dotted line, so deal with it. Suck it up, do your job and come back home safe, so you can at least enjoy your civilian life again.

Respectfully,
An Active Duty Member

So Fred Fisher Is Resigning…Now What?

COGOP members understand that it’s a BIG DEAL when a general overseer steps down and someone else takes their place. So it should come as no surprise that there will be a huge stir created in Nashville this summer when Bishop Fred Fisher officially steps down as General Overseer. However, it personally doesn’t come as a surprise to me that Fisher is resigning.

Bishop Fisher was a great step in the right direction for the Church of God of Prophecy. He led the COGOP through a huge time of reasserting itself as a God-centered church working to reach people for Christ instead of the church. Great guy. Really personable. But the one thing he seemed to lack, in my humble opinion, was an ability to really put a fire under our feet…as a result, we saw growth in the COGOP but things seem to have leveled off.

So the major question is, what next for COGOP? Are we going to get an overseer who is a good public speaker but doesn’t have much substance in leadership? Are we going to get someone who is primarily concerned with merging into the Church of God? Or are we going to get someone with a vision, someone who can, as said above, put a fire under our feet and give us all new thoughts and ideas while being a great leader and someone we will be proud to look up to?

God bless Bishop Fisher for his service. He will be missed as our general overseer. But now, in a critical time in the history of our church organization, we all really need to pray and be seeking the Lord for our new overseer, whoever he may be. We may have a “Vision Now,” but we need a great leader to help us reach a “Victorious Future.”

P.S. I hope whoever our new overseer is can finally lead us all to a resolution on the Divorce & Remarriage topic so we can close an awful chapter in our church’s history.
