It’s been nearly eight years since the New Radicals came out with their album “Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too.” On that album, which pretty much sucked, there was one good track to be found. That track, “You Get What You Give,” would easily make a list of my personal top 50 tracks of all time. So when I saw on the Internet today that LMC (I don’t know who it is or what the acronym stands for, or even if it is an acronym) remixed the song, I looked for it on Cabos.

In the past, a lot of people who tried to remix rock/pop songs have failed. Eric Prydz was known as The Dirty Funker back in the day and his remixes of Nirvana were absolutely horrible. So my initial reaction to this one was to be scared, and be very scared. Did LMC ruin “You Get What You Give?”

Hardly. With a thumping bassline and a nice house beat, throw in some synthesizers and you’ve got success. There are two versions of the song…one of them keeps Greg Alexander’s vocals and the other welcomes Rachel McFarlane as the guest vocalist. Basically the Alexander version is good, the McFarlane version sucks. That song was not made for a black gospel singer to butcher, and she does just that…she makes the song sound just weird. Plus, the video for the LMC version shows her singing and a bunch of people dancing in front of the camera, and just plain looks retarded. I hate it, and I’ve only seen 30 seconds of it.

But fortunately I’m reviewing the version with Greg Alexander’s vocals. It rocks so check it out if you get a chance. It will be released January 23 on All Around The World Records.

I give the Alexander version a 4 out of 5 stars. That’s a wrap.

NOTE: I’m providing a sample of the version with McFarlane’s vocals because it’s the only 1-minute sample I could find. Her voice sucks with the song. Just imagine Greg Alexander.
