Day 48: Iraq Votes!

Today is the day that validates why I am here for six months. If nothing else even happens for the next 132 days, I can walk away with the memory of interacting with many Iraqis who voted in their first-ever parliamentary election. It was really neat…I rode the bus to and from a video shoot just a couple hours ago and the Iraqi driver (same one I posted about a couple days ago) was excitedly talking about how he voted for Ibrahim al-Jaafari. He proudly held up his right index finger, which had been dipped in purple ink (the Iraqi government does this to signify the people voted). He kept saying “It is…good day for Iraq…we vote…Iraq is free…” and excitedly carried on. Even though there was an obvious language barrier between him and I, it was easy to understand that he was joyous over the fact he got to have a hand in deciding the fate of Iraq’s government, and that I was happy for him as well. I almost came close to getting worked up and crying somewhat because I realized in that bus that today was the day that Iraqi people who had their voices muffled for years were finally able to speak up and take action, by voting. It is an incredible day for Iraq.

Today we had to show up for work by 6:00 AM. I was in place at 5:53. Only 4 hours of sleep last night, but today I have not been nearly as tired as recent days because I have been drinking water like a madman and sucking down some candy.

That candy I ate was courtesy Crimson House Ministries, who sent me a massive care package full of necessary items. Thanks Crimson House folks for the gifts!!! They are much appreciated and I will write a large thank you letter soon.

As for my blog — it seems I have finally found a theme that will last awhile. Chicks dig the blue, while metrosexual guys (Katie Hargett called me one the other day) really cozy up to the neon green. I think it looks pretty cool, and I might tweak it juuuuuuuuust a little bit to make things look interesting. But I won’t change the general feel of the theme. This is the way it’s gonna stay for at least a month.

God has really been blessing me lately. Too many blessings to share about on this forum, but I will say that many of you who read this blog, I know personally and are a huge blessing in my life. I hope I am somehow a blessing to you all as well.

Today it was another short post but I gotta email Aftan, so I’ll catch y’all on the flip side.
