High school sports can be interesting sometimes.
It’s not, though, when teams decide to run up the score on another team.
That’s exactly what happened in Camas, WA last week, when Camas High School’s girls soccer team took on Washougal. Two completely different programs. And it showed–Camas throttled Washougal 17-0. Yeah, that’s right, 17-0. A football score in a game that every country outside the U.S. knows as football.
That is pathetic. There is no reverence in continuing to score three goals in the last three minutes of the game, with your team already up 14-0. It’s like losing a basketball game 34-0, a football game 112-0, etc. It’s absolutely terrible and I think the coach should at least be suspended or fired.
Here are some articles on the incident.

Indeed, there is no place for running up the score in high school sports. These are still kids out there playing, and when the coach runs up the score, he/she is using them to promote his own agenda.
