Since I can’t contact every single person I know through e-mail, I am transcribing a letter I have written so everyone with Internet access can read it.
To whom this concerns,
My boss told me around 3:30 PM on Tuesday that I will be deploying to Baghdad, Iraq, sometime around this November, for a six-month period. No further details were shared.
So far I know that I will be shooting television news stories at different military bases across Iraq. This affords me the opportunity to see the war through the eyes of someone helping record history, and to preserve it for future generations. What a great opportunity?جø¬?there are not many people who will be able to say they not only helped fight a war, but helped document it as well.
I am holding up quite well, given events and news that have taken place in my personal life this week. I have to admit I did feel a bit shocked about the official announcement, but I have a complete peace about traveling to the world?جø¬?s worst hotspot. This is where my faith in Jesus Christ guides me and keeps me at peace?جø¬?I believe that if it is God?جø¬?s will that I go, He is going to find a way to see me through it.
Please pray for my parents while I prepare to leave and while I am gone, especially my mother. When I called and told her that I was going to leave in November, she said that the Lord had told her to prepare for something big happening with me and my younger brother. Of course, it turns out the deployment is exactly that big event for me.
With technology continually advancing, rest assured I will stay in contact with everyone as much as possible. I will also provide details of what I am doing, again excluding sensitive information. I want each of you to be able to vividly experience the war through the eyes of someone whom you know.
I would like to thank my church, Lakeside Church in Newport News, VA, for standing behind me 100% as I make every possible preparation to deploy. My church family is going to be the key to help me spiritually before I go. Also I would like to thank the men and women across the Church of God of Prophecy in Washington state who have affirmed their support for me during this interesting time, and also the men and women of Crimson House Church of God of Prophecy in Springfield, Missouri?جø¬?my parents are active members there, and my mother asked them to hold me up in prayer. Also the members of the Jude 2 internet message board, who have kept in contact with me and told me they will be praying for me and stand behind me.
My thanks also to each and every single person who will be praying for me over the next year. It boggles my mind to know that there are friends I have known for years, friends of my family, acquaintances, and people I don’t even know praying in earnest for my safety, peace and comfort. You all are the people who will help push me through this. I wish there was some grand way I could repay each of you. Maybe someday I will be able to.
In closing I would like to once again reassure everyone that I am at peace with having to leave for a hostile place, and I would like to encourage everyone to share that peace. And may our God, who brings the very peace that is beyond each of our comprehension, bless each and every one of you, and all our troops fighting for freedom overseas.
