A car wreck just past the Fort Eustis exit on Interstate 64 has killed Eugene Guion, a Lakeside attendee, and three other people as well. The news article is posted below, courtesy WTKR Channel 3 in Norfolk.
The accident happened near mile marker 249, just before the Ft. Eustis exit in Newport News. Police say that around 3 o’clock Monday morning, an Oldsmobile carrying five young men, spun out of control and slammed into a tree in the median on the highway. After hitting the tree, the car burst into flames.
Witnesses to the accident pulled one person from the front seat of the car. That person is 15 year old Edward Guion. He is the only survivor of the crash and is currently at Riverside Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the car was 22 year old Eugene Guion, Edwards older brother, from Lucas Creek in Newport News. The young men in the backseat of the car, a 19 year old from Pennsylvania and two others, not yet identified, were also killed in the accident.
Traffic on I-64 in this area is still backed up and very slow moving. Police say they hope to have things cleared up by 8:00 a.m. This is all the information we have at this time.
Please be praying for the Guion family and Lakeside Church during this difficult time.
